This is a reactionary piece to the WWE Draft that aired on SmackDown Live Tuesday night. One of the notable names missing is former NXT Women's Champion Bayley. Many had speculated she'd be one of the six drafted from the one time developmental league.

The Bayley character has really grown on me over the last couple of years. I think she's the perfect baby face and a wonderful example for the underdogs out there, male or female. She doesn't look like the other women in the company and that type of diversity is a welcomed change. Bayley's work in and out of the ring is outstanding and her merchandise sells well.

But she needs to stay put. Part of my reasoning, the NXT roster is still recovering from big moves in the wake of WrestleMania. The brand lost Enzo and Big Cass, The Vaudevillians, Apollo Crews, Baron Corbin and Dana Brooke just since April. Now with the draft, three more women; Nia Jax, Alexa Bliss and Carmella plus Finn Balor, Mojo Rawley and American Alpha have been called up, further depleting the NXT roster.

The other concern I have with moving Bayley is her gimmick not translating on the grander stage. Many NXT "characters" work in the smaller environment and they can connect with the fans. There are several alumni called up who kept the same gimmick but have struggled to succeed. Bo Dallas, Fandango, The Vaudevillians and even Big E before joining The New Day have had trouble making the transition to the main roster. I fear Bayley could be subject to that too.

It's actually a compliment to keep Bayley on NXT. She's well-established and brings professionalism and stability to the women's division. But even as I type this I realize Sunday she may very well end up being Sasha Banks' mystery partner.

My logic may be a bit off base, but I firmly believe keeping Bayley on NXT is going to work out better for all involved in the long run.
