Christmas Wish List: Brodus Clay

Ho, ho, ho, it's Brodus Clay

I'm pretty sure Brodus Clay will get his Christmas wish before the holiday actually gets here, but I figured I'd write about it anyway.  I think the big man simply wants to be on TV.  For weeks, vignettes played teasing his return to Raw.  Then on the expected date of his arrival, it was postponed.  Then again the next week.  And the week after that.  I think all told, he's been delayed three weeks in a row now.  At least they're turning into a bit of a storyline with Raw GM John Laurinaitis saying he wants Brodus to come in anger and ready to go.  I've been assuming they were just delaying his start due to bad timing of the show and not being prepared, maybe I'm wrong.

I'm interested to see what they do with Brodus Clay once he's back on TV full time again.  I thought his run on NXT was good and even though he didn't win the competition, he got a pretty sweet gig on SmackDown!, playing the role of Alberto Del Rio's bodyguard.  But he wasn't around for long and was somewhat forgotten about on WWE programming.  I assumed that they sent him back to FCW for retooling, and maybe that's where he's been.

From WWE.com
I see Clay as having the potential to be a big player in 2012.  Even though the WWE has big guys like Kane, Mark Henry, and the Big Show, I do feel there's room for another monster type persona on the roster.  All three of the above mentioned superstars are established veterans (and appearing to be at the ending phases of their respective careers)  I don't mean that to come off these guys being past their prime, as Mark Henry is doing his best work right now, but they have all been around for 15 years or more.  Their in their 40's, and the shelf life of a wrestler isn't much past that (at least in most cases)

So if the WWE books him properly and uses him the right way, Brodus Clay could be a top contender in the next couple of years.  I don't think he should be world champion anytime soon, but I do think the guy deserves a shot.  He breaks that cookie cutter mold that most WWE/NXT guys have.  And speaking of that, please bring back Husky Harris.  He was one of my favorites on NXT.

Here's to hoping Brodus Clay makes his return to the ring in time for Christmas and dishes up some seasons beatings to WWE roster.  Your thoughts?  Post them here, or like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, and subscribe to YouTube.

  1. I was never really a fan, but now I just feel bad for the guy. I'm almost worried that they'll wind up giving him a gimmick where, due to some comical hijinks, he can't make it to shows on time.
