Christmas Wish List: Alberto Del Rio

You may ask, what could Alberto Del Rio possible need or want for Christmas.  He did have a pretty good year after all.  In addition to all those expensive cars, Del Rio won the Royal Rumble in January.  While he didn't win the World title against Edge at Wrestlemania, he had a good showing.  And for the most part stayed toward the top of the card.  Then Alberto won the Money in the Bank ladder match against the Raw competitors and cashed in at SummerSlam.  With the help of Kevin Nash, Del Rio won his first WWE championship, not a bad showing.

But the victory wouldn't last long, as John Cena took the title back, only to drop it again to Del Rio inside the Hell in a Cell.  By this point, I thought Del Rio was back on track to finally live up to meeting his destiny.  He several high profile matches this year and was a two time WWE champion.  But alas, it didn't last long, as Del Rio dropped the title again, this time to CM Punk at the Survivor Series.  My math skills aren't great, but I'm ball parking Del Rio's two title reigns in 2011 as about 70 days.  Kinda pathetic if you ask me.  Two title runs and just over 2 months of time as champion.

Of course I don't blame Del Rio for this. It's another case of WWE hotshotting the title.  It happens all too often.  Del Rio joins the ranks of Jack Swagger, the Miz, and Sheamus.  So I assume that Del Rio is asking Santa or Papa Noel for a solid run as the champion.  However, I see him getting lost in the shuffle.  He was kinda the flavor of the month (or months, heck even year) and will likely slide back into the upper midcard.  I could see a run as U.S. champion more realistic for him in 2012.  Or I could see the WWE putting he and Ricardo Rodriguez together as a team and having them get a run as champs.

I don't dislike Del Rio, but I'm not completely on board with him either.  Just as he was starting to grow on me, I felt like the WWE pulled the rug out from under him.  So good luck in 2012, and hopefully the creative team will come up with something more solid.
