Cody's Golden Opportunity

Cody vs Goldy (I think Royal Rumble 2010)

All signs are pointing to a Cody Rhodes vs. Goldust match sometime in the near future.  Following Goldust on Twitter, there's been a lot of buzz about it for the last month or so.  And now that Dustin has appeared the last two weeks, I think the match is coming.  Many fans are hoping for a contest between the two brothers at Wrestlemania 28, however with the rapid pace of booking in the WWE these days, I don't know if they can keep these two away from each other until then.

I asked the Facebook fans of My 1-2-3 Cents (you should go over there and click like right now, we'll wait for you) and those who responded agreed they'd like to see this match happen.  And from the comments, it seems like I'm in agreement with those fans too.  If this match does go down, Cody must get the decisive victory.

I'm a Goldust fan.  I've blogged about that before.  But nearly 16 years after the debut of the character, I can't say I support the idea of him going over Cody.  Cody (as I mentioned in another recent post) is clearly climbing the ladder to the top of the WWE.  His win in the rubber match with Booker T was just the feather his cap needed.  If they're going to try to save Cody vs. Goldust for Mania, I would like to see Cody get involved in another program right now to help establish his dominance.  And while we're at it, put Dustin back in the ring too and have him get rid of any ring rust he may have after being off with an injury.

The Rhodes Family (from WWE)
Goldust could eliminate Cody from the Royal Rumble, setting the tone for distention between the brothers. Cody and Dustin have separate matches at Elimination Chamber (and each win) leading them into Wrestlemania.  I would keep them away from each other until then.  No tag team matches, no beatdowns.  Let their hatred from each other simmer and then boil over on April 1st.

So what to do with Dusty Rhodes in all this.  He is the patriarch of the Rhodes family, and would have to be involved in this feud somehow.  Some have suggested Dusty serve as the guest referee.  I could see that, as I'm not sure what else they'd have him do.  I don't want to see him pick a side, so this might be the best role for him.

Having brothers wrestle each other is certainly nothing new, as we witnessed the Hardy Boys feud with each other a few years ago and of course the famous Bret Hart-Owen Hart feud of the mid 1990's.  But blood is supposed to be thicker than water, and that's what makes this possible matchup so intriguing, at least to me.  I'll be in the crowd at Wrestlemania 28 in Miami and hope Goldust vs. Cody Rhodes is one of the matches of the evening.  It's something they haven't done yet, and I'm always in favor of something fresh and interesting on the grandest stage of them all.
