My 1-2-3 Cents Pardon: The Gobbledy Gooker

@kevinhunsperger & @my123cents on Twitter

Every year the President of the United States pardons a turkey ahead of Thanksgiving. This year two birds, Peas and Carrots, will leave to see another day thanks to President (and WWE Hall of Famer) Donald Trump. So I'm starting a new pre-Thanksgiving tradition here at My 1-2-3 Cents and pardoning a gimmick or moment in pro wrestling that most fans hate on. It only makes sense for the inaugural pardon go to WWE's most famous turkey, the Gobbledy Gooker.

The Gooker debuted after hatching from a giant egg at Survivor Series 1990. I was a senior in high school at the time of the show. Admittedly I've always had a soft spot for campy, silly gimmicks in wrestling. I love Kamala, Doink and Papa Shango; but I digress.

Depending on who you listen to determines what the fate of the infamous turkey faced. Some have said he (Hector Guerrero) was supposed to be a regular part of the show. Others think it was just a holiday-inspired gimmick meant to be a seasonal character. I'm more in that boat. There's no need to see Gobbledy Gooker on the card at WrestleMania in April. But the month of November, I'm cool with it.

We've seen the feathered friend show up a few times since his debut 28 years ago. I'm all for more appearances by Gobbledy Gooker if for nothing us the nostalgia value. If you can watch Chikara Pro and suspend reality, you can certainly sit through a few segments once a year with the now pardoned Gobbledy Gooker. What are your thoughts on this character?

  1. The V6 Factory Replica Tag Heuer Aquaracer 300m Watch has been upgraded several times and has been perfect. The same fiber band and steel band can be installed. The material of this watch is mainly stainless steel, including the case and strap, and its bezel is made of ceramic.
