Who's the Champ?

Edge and I at Wrestlemania 24
For those who missed SmackDown! last night it appears that Edge defeated Dolph Ziggler in their world title match.  Vickie Guerrero was the special guest referee and banned the spear again.  In fact, she warned Edge that if he used it, he'd lose the title.

Toward the end of the match, Vickie tried to spear Edge.  By doing this, she ended up hurting herself.  Another referee helped her to the arena floor, and with Vickie's back turned, Edge speared Dolph.  But there was no one to make the count.  The champ speared Dolph again, this time in plain sight of Vickie.  She screamed, but couldn't do much more.

Green Bay Packer champ, Clay Matthews ran to the ring, wearing a referee shirt and made the 3 count, raising Edge's hand and the two celebrated in the ring.  You could tell Matthews was really enjoying himself. When Edge put his world title on Matthews' other shoulder, I thought you'd have to surgically remove the smile from the NFL great's face.

But now the WWE's website says the match ended in chaos and controversy.  So what will happen?  My guess is the title will be declared vacant and won by the winner of the Elimination Chamber in 8 days.  It would make the SmackDown's version of the chamber match a little more meaningful.  But I would suspect that Edge is going to walk out with the belt.

Dolph Zigger at Wrestlemania 26
And it's not because I don't think Dolph Ziggler would make a good world champion.  He has come a long way in a short amount of time.  His climb to this position reminds me of his quest for the Intercontinental title.  He was poised to win the belt, or so it seemed, but came up short each time against Rey Mysterio.  Then John Morrison popped in and won it.

Eventually, Dolph would get the gold, and I think EVENTUALLY he'll get the World title too.  The only reason I don't think he'll win it right now is I can't see the WWE going into Wrestlemania with two champions who have never main evented the event before.  However, they could make it where Ziggler is defending against Alberto Del Rio AND Edge.

Or maybe Teddy Long will return and just declare that Vickie's rules were unfair and since she was incapacitated during the match, another official was needed and his word is final.  Either way, it will be interesting to see what kind of card we'll get for Wrestlemania, which is just 50 days away.

  3. Dude that's awesome! I think you are right, Dolph will eventually win the World Heavyweight Title but he's not ready yet. I hope the WWE executives see that too. That is one thing I liked better about the old WWF; champs held their titles for longer periods of time and there weren't so many 5 to 10 time champs. A lot of the WWE hall of famers only won the World Title 2 or 3 times. I think the belt changes hands too much now a days. Oh well, thanks for update.
