The hypocritical blogger

Blogging!

I write every day at work. Then I come home and write more. New blogs are published here daily (since enacting a blog streak in May). Most afternoons I write a blog or two for my freelance business. But I do very little reading. I proofread what I've written and I read other articles and blogs when doing research. But overall I'm not a huge fan of reading. I'd much rather watch a YouTube video or listen to a podcast.

I hate that about myself. The last book I read was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. In fact the franchise of books is the only fiction I've read as an adult. I have Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (my son does actually) and I do intend to read it. But it will be the first book I've read since 2010 (I got started on the books after Deathly Hallows was published in 2007).

Mankind's first book
Most of my reading over the last 16 years (and I can pinpoint it to the year 2000 when the Rock and Mankind each published autobiographies around the same time) has been non fiction material. I've read a lot of entertainment related biographies, with the majority being wrestling related. But over the past six years I've simply not made the time to read like I once did.

So here I write every day hoping you and others will read it. Some blogs go over better than others. Subject matter plays a role, as does the distribution method. Timing is critical and after seeing some success, there's room for even more improvement and growth. If you happen to be a blogger and reading this, what are your tips for success? Non-bloggers, thanks! Please leave a note and let me know what kind of content you like to read. Feedback is always welcome here and taken very seriously.

5 Years of Making "Cents"

Evolution of a logo

On September 3, 2010 I sat down at my computer and created this blog.  My friend Jeff Rose had encouraged me to start a wrestling site.  Because I had written a blogs before on WordPress and good ol' MySpace, I knew what I was doing.  It was about taking the time to share meaningful content and stay consistent.

The first post...
The blog started off originally just about wrestling. I discovered that people for some reason have an interest in my life, so I started adding posts about the angst I experienced as a teenager.  There are also blogs about my family, pop culture and other random topics.  It's been a good balance and even though it breaks the conventional blogging practices of creating a niche and sticking to it, I'm proud of what I've accomplished.

I'm grateful to everyone who has read My 1-2-3 Cents, shared it or commented on it.  I'm also appreciative to my friends who have written posts to here.  Chad of course has been the most consistent and some of his blogs rank among the most read here.  More on that in a moment.

Podcast guests

I feel like My 1-2-3 Cents has grown from that .blogspot to an actual website.  Shortly after I created this, I made a YouTube channel and became a partner with them.  I'm still trying to figure out ways to get those videos in front of more people.  Last last year I was invited to create a podcast under the My 1-2-3 Cents moniker on the Jittery Monkey Podcasting Network.  I'm thankful to Greg Mehochko for that opportunity.  Just a few months ago, I've expanded my blogging beyond this site and have been doing freelance work for others.  I want to go from opinions about wrestling to more news about the business and interactive features.  Stay tune, there's more to come!

Thank you all!

Thanks a (Half) Million

By Kevin Hunsperger

Nearly four years ago I started this blog, as a way to share my opinion on professional wrestling, something I am very passionate about.  I was encouraged by my friend, Jeff Rose, who has a very successful blog called Good Financial Cents.  He and his wife Mandy (House of Rose) are both very well known in the blogging world.  Between their websites and podcasts, I have learned a lot and I think improved this page greatly.

Hit 500K today!  Thank you

I never thought then, I'd reach this milestone of half a million page views.  Compared to many, this isn't that significant, but through the years I've watched the number of reads consistently grow.  It's a true labor of love and I wouldn't be here without you.  Thanks for reading and sharing.

Since 2010, just like me, this blog has evolved.  It's not just about wrestling anymore.  The tag line is Wrestling. Pop Culture. Life.  I try to write about all these things on a regular basis.  I do it, because I enjoy writing.  But that's not the only reason.  After hearing countless stories of people turning their hobbies into a profitable blog, I decided to give it a whirl.  While I'm never going to be able to retire from my day job, blogging has provided a little extra income.

I've had help from friends too.  There are many who have provided posts here, as well as my buddy and Wrestlemania traveling partner Chad.  You've all shared some great tales and I thank you for that.

Readers, thank you again for supporting me over the several years, as I share my opinion and stories about the things I find interesting.  Keep reading and sharing, and don't forget to check me out My 1-2-3 Cents on YouTube too.
