Once again, I made my way to Cape Comic Con in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. But this year was different. I wasn't just there as a fan. The other hosts on the Jittery Monkey Podcasting Network had a table at this year's con.

We connected with many people, some who already listen and others we hope will start tuning in. If you stopped by the table, we appreciate it. Let us know what you want to hear on the Jittery Monkey Podcasting Network.

Something else as part of the weekend, Cape Championship Wrestling. Chad Smart (Positive Cynicism) and I attended the show along with Greg Mehochko (Nerds United, 5 Heart Podcast) and Mike Luther (Nerds United Co-Host of the Year).

Listen to the My 1-2-3 Cents recap of the weekend right here.

I tried something different on this week's podcast. I set up my equipment in the corner of the locker room of the most recent Stride Pro Wrestling show. Some of the guys stopped by for a quick conversation on indy wrestling.

Check it out here and be sure to join us this Saturday night for the return of the Stride Cup Tournament. We'll see you there.

Talk to me, I'm listening

Talk to me, I'm all ears...
@kevinhunsperger & @my123cents on Twitter

For years, I had a goal of adding a podcast to the My 1-2-3 Cents brand. In 2014, Greg Mehochko from the Jittery Monkey Podcasting Network invited me to join. I hit the ground running and each week since December 9, 2014, a new My 1-2-3 Cents podcast has dropped. Some weeks are better than others. But in the last three-and-a-half years I'd like to think I've improved the overall product.

I'm listening, brother
But I want to get better at this. I know there are still some technical issues I need to address. And even though I do the talking on the podcast, right now I'm listening to you. What do you want to hear on the podcast? I listen to several different pro wrestling podcasts each week. Some are fan-based, others are hosted by men and women in the industry.

I've added a few new features like Superfan, Our 6 Cents and Wrestling Under the Influence. I like these features, however, the show isn't about my likes. It's time to grow and evolve this brand and I'm not just talking about My 1-2-3 Cents. I want to help bring all the shows on Jittery Monkey to the forefront. I strive to get better, but with generic compliments with no constructive criticism has my wheels spinning and craving to make a change.

Lunch with wrestling fans
I had lunch today with avid pro wrestling fan Sam Banks. We briefly discussed the shows he listens to, with him citing Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast as his favorite. I enjoy his show too. I want to achieve his level of success. Conrad Thompson and his trio of shows have set a new standard in the pro wrestling podcast genre. I don't want to, nor can I copy what they're doing. But I've got to find a way to grow.

There's room for all of us in this space. However, I want to be one of your 'go-to' shows each week. If you're not comfortable sharing your thoughts here, PM me through the My 1-2-3 Cents Facebook page or you can post an anonymous comment here

I sincerely thank you for your support and look forward to continuing to follow my passion for years to come.

Podcast ponderings

Every week for more than two years I have recorded and shared My 1-2-3 Cents the Podcast on the Jittery Monkey Podcast Network and iTunes. Many of those shows have a guest related to the world of professional wrestling. Sometimes it's just me rambling about the latest in the world of sports entertainment. And other times Chad joins me to talk more about the business.

The market is saturated with wrestling related shows. When I started in late 2014 I don't feel like there were as many former wrestlers (or personalities) doing shows. Recently there's been a huge surge in this and I wonder more often than not what this uptick means for small shows like My 1-2-3 Cents.

Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard, for example, has millions of listeners. I just crunched the numbers for 2017 and in the first 11 weeks of the year, My 1-2-3 Cents is averaging 80 listeners per show. Episodes with indy wrestlers typically do better because they share the podcast on their social media accounts.

Two-time My 1-2-3 Cents guest Jeff Jarrett
I enjoy doing a wrestling-themed show but wonder if the genre has too much coverage, especially by experts in the field. I firmly believe podcasting is the wave of the future and allows everyday people to have a voice. I know I should be more excited about the fact that 80 people on average give a damn about what I have to say instead of thinking ONLY 80 people listen. Plus I've had a chance to meet (in person and/or on the phone) many greats in wrestling.

Friends, what can I do to boost my audience? I'd love your 1-2-3 Cents on the subject. Thanks for reading and listening to the show.

Listen, review and WIN!

Listen to the podcast

For nearly two years I've been doing a weekly wrestling podcast. Thank you to those who listen on the Jittery Monkey Podcasting Network or iTunes each week. In an effort to boost the algorithm of the show I'm running a contest. It's an idea I've stolen from The Ric Flair Show. (Sorry my prizes won't be as cool as the champs old belts.)

So here's how you play. Head over to iTunes and rate the show, give a rating and then write up a quick review. Please be honest with your thoughts, you won't hurt my feelings. Let me know what you like about the show and what you'd change. If you listen through Jittery Monkey, leave a comment.

Screen capture your review and tag us on social media: @kevinhunsperger or @my123cents on Twitter or post it on the My 1-2-3 Cents Facebook page.  Winners will be picked at random and announced on the October 10 podcast. So you've got plenty of time to enter and win!

There's no business like monkey business

Don't worry, this isn't another post asking for your help in naming the My 1-2-3 Cents monkey. I've received lots of great suggestions, but the best piece of advice came from someone who's opinion I respect immensely. He told me make the name something personal for me, but conveys the message I want to deliver. So I'm doing some soul searching as we speak.

I wanted to use today's post (Blog Streak Day 43) to do some self promotion. If you haven't already, please check out my podcast. It's on the Jittery Monkey Podcasting Network and iTunes. Every Monday there's a new My 1-2-3 Cents podcast. Catch up on the latest wrestling news and opinions right here. There's also plenty of great guests to hear too.

Here's a few of my guests from the indy scene, current WWE roster and legends.

Heath Hatton
"Golden Boy" Greg Anthony
Pokerface
Princess Kimber Lee
Farmer Billy Hills
Daniel Eads
Kofi Kingston
Sheamus
Xavier Woods
Jeff Jarrett
Kamala
Honky Tonk Man
Hacksaw Jim Duggan
Mick Foley

Not only does Jittery Monkey feature the My 1-2-3 Cents podcast, but the site's co-found Greg Mehochko has a show called Nerds United. He talks all about comic books, movies and TV shows. Greg has also started blogging about these topics too. Check out his shows, as he has guests in the industry too.

The end goal is to build a network of "nerd" related topics that listeners will enjoy tuning in to each week. Thanks for the support. Please share this and let me know what you think of the show. I'm only 14 episodes away from triple digits and am planning on another big guest (Terri Runnels was the one year anniversary guest).

5 Years of Making "Cents"

Evolution of a logo

Listen to the podcast

On September 3, 2010 I sat down at my computer and created this blog.  My friend Jeff Rose had encouraged me to start a wrestling site.  Because I had written a blogs before on WordPress and good ol' MySpace, I knew what I was doing.  It was about taking the time to share meaningful content and stay consistent.

The first post...
The blog started off originally just about wrestling. I discovered that people for some reason have an interest in my life, so I started adding posts about the angst I experienced as a teenager.  There are also blogs about my family, pop culture and other random topics.  It's been a good balance and even though it breaks the conventional blogging practices of creating a niche and sticking to it, I'm proud of what I've accomplished.

I'm grateful to everyone who has read My 1-2-3 Cents, shared it or commented on it.  I'm also appreciative to my friends who have written posts to here.  Chad of course has been the most consistent and some of his blogs rank among the most read here.  More on that in a moment.

Podcast guests

I feel like My 1-2-3 Cents has grown from that .blogspot to an actual website.  Shortly after I created this, I made a YouTube channel and became a partner with them.  I'm still trying to figure out ways to get those videos in front of more people.  Last last year I was invited to create a podcast under the My 1-2-3 Cents moniker on the Jittery Monkey Podcasting Network.  I'm thankful to Greg Mehochko for that opportunity.  Just a few months ago, I've expanded my blogging beyond this site and have been doing freelance work for others.  I want to go from opinions about wrestling to more news about the business and interactive features.  Stay tune, there's more to come!

Thank you all!

Are You Listening?

For 29 weeks now I've been doing a wrestling podcast on the Jittery Monkey Podcasting Network.  The show is also on iTunes, Stitcher and Poddirectory.  Each week I've had a new show drop (one week there were two shows) and people still seem surprised when I tell them I have a show.  That tells me that social media isn't as social as I thought, because like this blog I share my podcasts on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Instagram, Pinterest and Reddit.

I'm slowly gaining listeners, but honestly the process is taking longer than I anticipated.  For example, I have a great interview up right now with WWE Hall of Famer and wrestling legend Mick Foley.  As of this post, less than 60 people have heard that show.  Maybe I shouldn't be admitting this, but I thought Episode 27: Mrs. Foley's Baby Boy would quickly outpace my most listened podcast featuring an interview with current WWE Superstar Sheamus.  That show by the way is just over 100 listens and is my most listened.  Indy star "Gentleman" Jervis Cottonbelly is a close second.

I'm writing about my podcast not to complain, but to hopefully drum up some interest.  I have several interviews available.  Besides Sheamus, Foley and Cottonbelly; I've done podcasts with Kamala, Jeff Jarrett and "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton.  Nigel McGuinness and other indy stars like Heath Hatton, Pokerface and "Golden Boy" Greg Anthony have all been on too.

I try to have an interview every week.  When I can't get a wrestler on the show, Chad and I provide some analysis.  We've talked about WWE Network shows, eulogized "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes and handed out our annual Centy Awards.

If you haven't listened and are a fan of wrestling, give it a try.  If you have listened and don't like it, let me know what I can do differently.  I'll be honest, this is a hobby that I'm hoping to take to the next level.  I would love to do more blogging, vlogging and podcasting.  Thanks for the support as always.

Listen Up!

About a year ago when I wrote my 2014 goals blog, I wrote about starting a podcast.  Time and a lack of knowledge prevented me from getting this feat accomplished.  Then in late November, Greg Mehocko, host of Nerds United on the website Jittery Monkey invited me to start a wrestling podcast and join the network.  I jumped at the chance and once I got some quick tips from another podcasting buddy of mine Jeff Rose (Dollars & Roses) I sat down and recorded my first show.

I'm very green at this. I'm using Garage Band on my computer to put the My 1-2-3 Cents Podcast together.  Once I work out the bugs,  I will add discussions with my friends and eventually interviews with wrestlers, managers, and others involved in the wrestling business.

To hear the My 1-2-3 Cents podcast, click here.  You can also find it on iTunes! Thanks for the support and please feel free to offer suggestions.
