As we count down to Christmas my plan is to post a daily blog about a memorable gift.  I'm not trying to materialize Christmas by any means.  We went to church growing up, but we also celebrated the season by giving and receiving gifts.

My first memory of Christmas morning was around age four or maybe five.  I remember waking up that morning and hearing an almost mechanical squeaky sound, followed by a brief pause and then a slight plop.  The Christmas tree lights were still on and glowing as it was dark outside.  I woke my brother and we raced into the living room.

Santa left a penguin slide stocked with batteries and turned on under the tree.  Colorful toy penguins would make their way up a staircase, reach the top and then slide to the bottom, only to repeat the process.  We were memorized by this for what seemed like an eternity.  Nearly 40 years later I can still see and hear that slide.  It's funny how some things stick with you for so long.
