Reuniting the Shield

I was asked for a recent podcast what I thought about the Shield reuniting. Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins have already been hanging out on Raw and I believe have had a run on the house show circuit as a team. Roman Reigns, of course, is the missing piece to the puzzle since the group split in 2014. Long story short, I endorse a reunion of this super group.

As I explained on the Ask My 1-2-3 Cents podcast, putting these three superior Superstars back together is not a step back for any of them. Sometimes I think fans get caught up in the idea that once a team splits someone has to be the Shawn Michaels and someone has to be the Marty Jannetty of the unit. That's not the case in 2017. All three members of the Shield excelled outside their roles in the trio.

Each man has been WWE Heavyweight Champion, Reigns holding it three times. Ambrose has had a couple runs Intercontinentalial Champion. They've all been U.S. Champ too. In my 1-2-3 cents, the Shield can continue to dominate the WWE as a unit and as individuals. It would be no different than what Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson and Barry Windham (Lex Luger, Ole Anderson, Sid Vicious) did as the Four Horsemen. Evolution did it years later with Flair, Triple H, Randy Orton and Batista.

It's safe to say most fans would enjoy a Shield reunion and it's likely the only way to ensure Reigns is cheered by the crowd again. WWE has tried to make their Universe embrace the big Samoan, but for the most part, he's been rejected and booed. Look at his recent dealings with Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman.

Bring back the Shield. I like that WWE is building up some factions again, with Miz's Entourage and there's the New Day still rockin' on SmackDown Live and could Jinder Mahal be adding to his group now with the Great Khali? Oh, and while we're at it, let's do something with the Wyatt Family again too...

It's Easter, I'm all-in for the blogging streak here and I'm trying to make My 1-2-3 Cents a wrestling blog only (go to Kevin HunsBlogger for the other stuff). So today is the best I could muster for a wrestling/Easter themed post. I apologize in advance, but thank you for reading this on the holiday no less.

Easter Bunny meets the "Macho Man"

First up is the picture I found online of "Macho Man" Randy Savage and the Easter Bunny. Doing some late night research on Easter eve (I know it's not a real thing), I came up short in trying to figure out what the heck the story is behind the photo. Judging by Savage's look in the pic, I'm guessing this was during his time with WCW. Google has failed me in discovering any other details. It's a neat picture and one I've never seen before, despite the fact that it has to be at least 20 years old.

I came across a site with some really cool artwork focusing on WWE Superstars transformed as Easter eggs. There's everyone from the New Day to John Cena to the Wyatt Family and the Undertaker on the site. You can see all the designs on Black Sports Online.

Those photos are much better than my 2014 attempt at a Superstar inspired Easter egg. I decorated an egg that year in memory of the Ultimate Warrior who had died 12 days earlier. My skills may be lacking, but the sentiment was there none the less.

Did the Easter Bunny leave you anything wrestling related this year? WWE is performing in Cape Girardeau later this evening (Easter night). I won't make it there for the show, but I will be at Cape Championship Wrestling this upcoming Saturday for the company's Super Show.

Battleground predictions

Battleground is just a few hours away and will serve as a send off for several Superstars prior to heading to their new shows. We know the Club will no longer include AJ Styles and the new threesome of John Cena, Enzo and Big Cass is over too. Here are my picks for the show. Be sure to listen to the analysis of Battleground on the My 1-2-3 Cents podcast.

Dean Ambrose will retain the WWE Championship only to have Stephanie McMahon present Seth Rollins with the World Heavyweight Championship the next night on Raw. The only way the brand extension can truly work is to have two separate heavyweight champions. At one point I was for just one champ, but if WWE is going all in on the split two champs have to be the way they do it.

Sasha Banks and Nia Jax will beat Charolette and Dana Brooke. Bayley won't be the mystery partner. Sasha will keep the feud with Charolette going strong and the two will face off at SummerSlam. There's no need to throw Bayley into that mix just yet.

The Miz will retain the Intercontenial title against Darren Young. I just don't see Young as IC champ material, but that's not to say he can't or won't be one day. I do like the pairing with Bob Backlund. Time will tell.

Rusev will beat Zack Ryder. I love Zack, don't get me wrong. But WWE has yanked him around so many times in the past he's not a credible threat to the monster heel Rusev. He needs to stay strong and face stiffer competition at SummerSlam next month.

The Club and AJ Styles will beat John Cena, Enzo and Big Cass. I'm breaking my own "never beat against Cena" rule. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson can carry on with the feud against Enzo and Cass on Raw and Cena and AJ can wrap things up against each other at SummerSlam on the SmackDown Live side of things.

I like the Becky Lynch-Natalya feud going on right now. Since they're both on SmackDown Live, I'd add the stipulation that the winner of this match becomes the number one seed in the tournament for SDL women's championship, because like I said earlier there needs to be two sets of champs.

The New Day will beat The Wyatt Family. My only reasoning for this is my assumption the Family as we know it is splitting up. Braun Strowman is going to Raw and Erick Rowan and Bray Wyatt will be on SmackDown Live. Plus as the tag team champions, I'd like to see New Day going into the SummerSlam storyline looking stronger.

Despite saying the match is their final battle, I see more life in the Sami Zayn-Kevin Owens feud. I'd rather see this culminate at WrestleMania and if WWE doesn't wait that long than Hell in a Cell with Zayn winning and finally breaking that 'underdog' stature.

The Usos will win against Breezango. I'm not sure WWE is firmly behind Fandango and Tyler Breeze just yet.

I'm probably mostly wrong with these predictions, which isn't a bad thing. I like when WWE comes up with things I'm not thinking.

Our Survivor Series

I am a fan of the traditional elimination style matches that made up the first several Survivor Series events. With the 2015 pay per view looking less and less likely to feature this format, Chad and I have come up with the matches he'd like to see this year.

Note: we did not use any injured Superstars or those who are off for the time being.  That takes a lot out including Seth Rollins, Rusev, Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan, John Cena and Brock Lesnar.

Nikki Bella                                         Becky Lynch

Sasha Banks                                     Natalya

I made the Divas a three on three because the current roster doesn't have enough face Divas and to keep within the rules of only using main roster talent I didn't want to bring Bailey up for this, although that would have been the way to accomplish this.

Introducing Daniel Wyatt

Daniel Wyatt

By Kevin Hunsperger
@kevinhunsperger & @my123cents on Twitter

2014 is already shaping up to be an interesting year in terms of the Daniel Bryan's future.  The former World Heavyweight and WWE Champion has joined the Wyatt Family.  We saw that happen six days ago on Monday Night Raw. Fast forward to a house show in Hampton, Virginia over the weekend, where fans in attendance get  a look at "Daniel Wyatt."

Bryan was scheduled to wrestle Bray Wyatt in a steel cage match.  The match went on, but not like fans of "D-Bry" would have hoped.  Not only was Bryan introduced as Daniel Wyatt, but he came to the ring dressed in a blue jumpsuit, similar to what Erick Rowan wears.

The New Wyatt Family

According to reports by fans in attendance, Bryan stood in the middle of the ring and took a beating by Bray Wyatt and eventually laid down and was pinned.  I don't know if that embrace in the picture to the right occurred before or after the beating.

It'll be interesting to see what the next step in this story line turns out to be when Raw comes on the air Monday night.  I'm not going to pass judgment on the angle until I see how things develop.  I think this has the potential to help all four parties involved.

I don't know who filed the original report or shared the pictures, as I found them floating around the internet, so I don't know who to give credit to.
