Wayback WhensDay: The Golden Girls

The Golden Girls
By Kevin Hunsperger

Go ahead now and take my man card. I am a middle aged man and I love watching Golden Girls reruns.  I have loved the show since it first premiered back in 1985.  I was 12 years old then and I have fond memories of watching the show every Saturday night.  That probably tells you something about my social life back then.

My best memory of watching the original run of the show is spending time with a special woman we all referred to as Granny.  Granny was actually a friend of the family and a grandmother figure to a lot of kids I knew growing up.  We would go over to our friends' house, where Granny lived, and hang out.  It felt like we were there nearly every Saturday night as our parents would be spending time together too.  Golden Girls became almost like a bonding experience across generations.

Story time
Even as I entered high school, I would still watch, but not as regularly, as I did begin to develop a social life.  Then the show went into syndication, and it seemed like Rose, Blanche, Dorothy, and Sophia were on all the time.  That's still the case today, more than 20 years after the show ended its run.

Picking a favorite is difficult to do.  I say I like all four of them equally, but for different reasons.  Even though I've seen each episode God knows how many times, I still chuckle when I watch.  One thing I never understood though was why they were always wearing long pants and long blouses in Miami.  But then again, the world probably couldn't take a bikini clad Bea Arthur either.

The show is definitely a pop culture phenomenon and I'm proud to say my living room is now decorated with a very unique piece by artist Sam Carter.  My blogging buddy Chad got it for me a few months ago.  I've added that to the Golden Girls t-shirt he bought me a few years ago.  As they say in the theme song, "Thank you for being a friend."

Homer Simpson: The Real Mr. Wrestlemania

Homer vs. Andre
Wrestlemania III

Two of my favorite things in the world are professional wrestling and The Simpsons.  Since Wrestlemania turns 30 this year and the Simpsons turn 25, I decided to have a little fun.  I took a Homer Simpson toy and had him stand in for a WWE Superstar from the past 29 Wrestlemanias.  I was somewhat limited in my wrestlers and even busted a few of them out of their packaging for this.

You can see the results in the video below.  I did do a bonus one for Wrestlemania 20 because I thought the shot was funny.  Enjoy.

Blog 1,000

By Kevin Hunsperger
@kevinhunsperger & @my123cents

Just over three years ago I started this blog to share my love of professional wrestling.  Along the way, my buddy Chad started sharing his opinions on the business too.  Other friends have contributed a blog from time to time too, and today I'm proud to say this is the 1,000th blog post.

Over the last six months or so, I've changed the focus of the blog from just wrestling to pop culture and life.  It's proven to be successful as page hits have risen each month since making the change.  For that, I thank all of you.

Team My 1-2-3 Cents vs. The Head Bangers
I wasn't sure when I started this in 2010 that I'd have the staying power to continue it.  After all, how many wrestling blogs are already out there?  (the answer is a lot) And who really cares what I have to say? But much to my surprise, people do read it.  Maybe they don't care what I have to say, but they're (you're) checking it out.

I still love writing about wrestling.  I'll continue to do that.  But I also love sharing my stories about my life with you too.  The relatively new Way Back WhensDay has become my favorite to write and has been more popular with readers than I had ever anticipated.

I appreciate everyone for reading and sharing this blog.  I'd also like to invite you to check us out on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.  I'm on Pinterest and Instagram too, just search for Kevin Hunsperger.

We're Squared: Happy 3rd Birthday to Us!

I'm excited about this blog for a couple of reasons.  First, I'd like to thank you for reading it today.  Whether this is the first of the 968 blogs posted on My 1-2-3 Cents or you've read every single one of them, I truly appreciate your support.  Today marks the 3rd birthday for this site.  I created it on September 3, 2010, after some encouragement from a friend of mine who is a great financial blogger (and veteran and now published author Jeff Rose)  He's the one who told me I should be blogging about wrestling, and so I did it.

I had been writing another blog called I'm Just Sayin', but I wasn't consistent or very passionate about it.  With this blog, I've been extremely active with it and dedicated to keeping the content fresh.  If you've been along since 2010, you know up until recently this was only a wrestling blog.  I've decided to diversify a bit and add more content and it's shown a spike in readership.  After all, this is a blog and the goal at the end of the day is to have more readers.  I still have a long way to go to match up with my friends who blog, but I am proud of the things we've accomplished here.

The new mantra: Wrestling. Pop Culture. Life. makes it much easier to come up with daily content.  While I do most of the writing here, I've had help along the way.  My partner in crime and Wrestlemania "bromance" buddy Chad has contributed a lot of the material here and shares his interesting perspective on things.  His knowledge of Chikara Pro has been invaluable as well as his look at wrestling companies on the west coast.

I've had a handful of other friends in wrestling share their 1-2-3 Cents through the years.  I appreciate Travis, Aaron, Adam, and Drew for writing for the page too.  I need to thank my brother for coming up with the My 1-2-3 Cents banner on our Facebook page.  And others have given me some great ideas for topics, so for that, I thank you.

Last year when I blogged on our second birthday or anniversary (which should I call it?) we were at around 234,000 page views.  As of this writing, we're at 363,535.  That excites me too, because I started the year off slacking.  The last couple of months I've ramped up my writing and refocused the efforts here.  I hope you, the reader, are enjoying the changes and the topics are interesting to you.  I'm always open to suggestions and I have thick skin, so you can be brutally honest.

This blog was the start of several other My 1-2-3 Cents projects.  We're on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.  Chad and I each have Instagram and Twitter accounts too, so check us out.  Wrestling fans, thanks again for being with us and baring with the changes to the format.  Newcomers, thanks for checking us out.  I can't thank you all enough for your support!  As a thank you, be sure to like this link on our Facebook page and someone will be chosen to win a My 1-2-3 Cents prize pack.
