Stride Goes Steel in the 'Ville is just a day away. The Stride Pro Wrestling fundraiser is an all-steel cage match show. In an effort to encourage you, the loyal My 1-2-3 Cents reader, to come to the show I've broken the event down by the numbers.

12 feet off the ground is how high the cage stands.

23 men will be competing in 6 steel cage matches. Of those men, 13 have held or currently hold a championship in Stride. Some have been multi-time champs.

600 E. Water Street is the address to Pinckneyville Community High School, our event host. And 618-357-5013 is the number to call for tickets.

10 & 15 are the number of dollars you'll pay for a ticket, 15 bucks for a floor seat and 10 for a bleacher seat.

41 days ago El Magnifico was viciously attacked by Wraith, Ryzer and Chase King. That attack kept the Lucha star out of action since. He teams up with "Farmer" Billy Hills & "T-Dog" Jerry Travelstead.

5 men will battle for a shot at the Legacy Championship next month. (Chris Hargas, Scott Phoenix, Arron Brooks, Daniel Eads and Cash Borden are all in.)

10 championships have been held between the four men competing for the Stride Pro Wrestling Tag Team Titles. Ax Allwardt has had four, Heath Hatton has had four, Bo Sawyer has had one and Jason Tiller has had one. 

Hundreds of fans will be cheering educators Josh Plumlee and Tony Wilson as they battle they DR Party.  

1 lead pipe has made a difference several times in the feud between Jay Spade and Tony Flood.

Locked up: the history of steel cage matches

Steel cage matches have been a staple in professional wrestling for decades. The very first was a match between Jack Bloomfield and Count Petro Rossi. It happened in 1937 in Atlanta, Georgia. The two wrestlers were enclosed in the ring with chicken wire and not the typical fencing that we've come to know today. (Information from Online World of Wrestling.)

The point of a steel cage match is to keep the rivals locked in and keep anyone from getting involved in the match to interfere. In most cases, a cage match is the wrap up to a feud. However, there are exceptions to that rule. TNA has famously done all-steel cage matches in the past. I've not been too keen on these events, in large part though because I don't actively follow TNA and don't know how their stories are being told.

I say that because on Saturday, May 26, Stride Pro Wrestling is hosting its first all-steel cage match event. I'm biased of course, but all six of the matches have built up to this and the rivalries are certainly intense enough to fall into the usual guidelines as a reason for having a cage match. Plus, yours truly is going to be involved in one of these matches. With years of experience as a ring announcer and commentator, I've never set foot inside a cage, much less wrestle in one. It's going to be interesting...

Here are the matches as they stand now.

Wraith, Ryzer & Chase King vs. Farmer Billy Hills, Jerry Travelstead & Jose Magnifico

Chris Hargas vs. Arron Brooks vs. Cash Borden vs. Scott Phoenix to determine the number one contender to the Legacy Championship.

Heath Hatton & Ax Allwardt (c) vs. The Midwest Monster Hunters for the Stride Pro Wrestling Tag Team Championships.

Roger Matheus vs. Kevin Hunsperger

Josh Plumlee & Tony Wilson (new principal) vs. Dexter Roswell & Brian Richards

Jay Spade (c) vs. Tony Flood for the Stride Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Champion.

To say Saturday night's Cinco de Strideo show was a chaotic one would be the understatement of the year. So much happened, and I go into greater detail in the next episode of My 1-2-3 Cents the podcast (ep. 181). That show drops Monday morning.

Long story short here though, I am going to be stepping back into the ring. This time it's a steel cage match against Roger Matheus. He attacked my daughter, Brooke, at the show Saturday night. After threatening to power slam her, I signed the contract to face him. But he slammed her anyway. I'm beyond livid, but the most important thing is my daughter is doing alright a day later. She is obviously sore and having a hard time understanding why a near 300 pound former MMA fighter would attack tween cheerleader. I think it sums up Roger Matheus nicely.

There is some good news to report from the show. Yes, I'm being biased in that, but Ax Allwardt and Heath Hatton are the Stride Pro Wrestling tag team champions again. The win is another one for the history books here as Ax becomes the first three-time tag champ in Stride. He and Scott Phoenix won the belts a year ago. Then he and Hatton picked them up in March and again in May. I'm sure the Midwest Monster Hunters will enact their rematch clause soon.

Several matches have been made for Stride Goes Steel in the 'Ville event. In addition to myself and Roger in a cage, Tony Flood goes after Jay Spade's Stride Pro Wrestling heavyweight championship. Chris Hargas, Arron Brooks, Scott Phoenix and Cash Borden collide for the number one contendership to the Legacy Championship. Wraith, Ryzer and Chase King take on Farmer Billy Hills, 'T-Dog' Jerry Travelstead and a mystery partner. More matches will be announced soon.
